WINTER E-BIKE MAINTENANCE & STORAGE

TIPS AND TRICKS TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR BATTERY
Nearly all e-bikes out there use a Lithium-Ion battery. If well maintained, e-bike batteries can easily be charged up to 1000 times without degradation and hold a charge for much longer. If you store your bike in a cold place overnight, such as an outside shed or garage, the battery gets cold and, over extended periods, reduces the overall health and life expectancy. Also, if the battery is charged in a cold environment, the battery will struggle to achieve full charge capacity, leading to a shorter battery life expectancy.

STORE AND CHARGE THE BATTERY INSIDE
Batteries should be at room temperature before charging, so if you’ve just returned from a cold ride, let the battery rest inside for several hours before plugging it in. Your battery should maintain a consistent charge of 60-80% throughout winter months when not in use.

Bosch makes it east to remove the battery in CX System bikes.

REMOVE THE BATTERY DURING THE WINTER IF NOT IN USE
Many batteries are easily removable such as the Norco Scene VLT, Trek Rail+ and Allant+. Many newer models have integrated batteries within the bike and are not as easily removed at home such as Marlin+ and Verve+2 models. For these, if you can’t keep the bike indoors above ten degrees, we suggest that you bring it to the shop, and we can remove the battery for you and reinstall it in the spring once outside temperatures rise. There is a fee associated with battery removal for integrated battery systems such as TQ motor equipped bikes such as the Fuel+, Checkpoint+ and Norco Sight

TQ system bikes require tools to remove battery packs from their models such as this Trek Fuel+.

RIDE YOUR BIKE THIS WINTER!
The best thing is to ride your bike throughout the winter months and regularly charge the battery to ensure maximum battery health. Riding your E-Bike in the cold will not damage the battery. In operation, the battery naturally heats up to limit potential damage from cold weather.
